The small rural town of Aqua Dulce was the aim of today’s hiking. Got up early as usual and got some easy but uneventful miles done. Then at a point where the trail crossed a road I was surprised to find trail magic again from the aforementioned “Copper Tone” that I had met a week earlier. Nice! He had simply moved shop further into the trail. Small talked with him and and some other hikers and had a donut and a banana. Hiked on to a nearby camp site where I picked up a package that I had ordered with a new filter for my camera as I had scratched up my previous one trying to clean it with a cloth that apparently had some grains of sand in it. Also nice. After crossing under another highway I briefly stopped to check my map and behind me popped up the danish guy that I had met at “Scout and Frodo’s” the day before we started. I had thought that he was far ahead of me but he had to take four days of to wait for some shin splints that he had gotten to go away. They hewas now back with a new hiking partner not really taking any zero days. They invited me to join them at a Mexican restaurant when we got to Agua Dulce. I had already had lunch twice, but still said “sure!” Before we got to that however, we crossed through a section with many nice rock formations including Vasquez Rocks which have often been featured in movies. I guess we are in the so-called thirty mile zone of Los Angeles, where much filming is done. The food an beers at the restaurant was really nice. After that we were driven in the back of a pickup truck (which is legal here) to the so-called “Hiker Heaven” where we camped, but more on that in the next day’s post.
